I have lived in Wilmington, NC for 15 years now cannot imagine living anywhere else.  I enjoy doing anything active such as surfing, tennis, running and am grateful to be able to share these things with my family.

I have been in the real estate business since 1999 and I believe selling your home should not be limited to paying a local agent a percentage of the sales price of your home to simply list it in the MLS.  With the emergence of the internet, the real estate industry has changed significantly and sellers are now able to handle much of the sale of their home themselves. However, the one thing they do not have access to is the MLS system, which is the best way to get the exposure you need to sell your home.

The role of the listing agent is simple, to find a buyer for the property.  To do this, they usually list your home in the MLS and then will most likely charge a percentage of your homes sale price as a fee. I believe that the whole system of percentage-based commission should be changed. I do not think a listing agent does anything more or less for a home priced at $150,000 or one priced at $300,000. So why should the commission be greater for the more expensive home?
